With over 500 commercials and adverts for both radio and television, a dozen odd documentaries and more than 50 teleserials to his credit, Gautam Ghosh today is undeniably one of the most versatile music making minds in contemporary India - a career that began in the fall of '85 while studying law at Delhi University after acquiring an Honours degree in English literature from the prestigious Hindu College in 1983.
His carrer spans more than 15 years, beginning in the early 1980s when he was dedicated to the 'live circuit' in Delhi primarily as a vocalist, and later doubling on keyboards and drums/percussions. Since 1990, he has been playing all instruments from synthesizers in all his compositions and sound tracks. The summer of '92 changed everything - he converted his bedroom into a mini studio with MIDI-triggered hi-tech devices and a 486 IBM to make music in a 'living-in' sense.
International clientele include Microsoft, Hewlitt-Packard, ABB, GE Plastics, Nestle, Goodyear etc. and a host of other Indian giants such as SAIL, Modi Continental, Liberty, Hudco, Indian Navy, Campa Cola etc.
Based in New Delhi, Gautam has finally launched his private sound bank called Sound Syndicate, which produces music in three different categories:
1. TERMINALLY INSANE produces songs in English;
2. BANJARA DIL produces songs in Hindi; and
3. M.I.S.T (MINDSCAPES IN SOUND TEXTURES) produces instrumental compositions.
Having drawn inspiration from a rich variety of diverse musical idiom from all cultures, I believe that listening to music is a human experience, both universal and unique. Each piece acquires a specific mood, attired in thought and embraced in emotions that is felt and experienced in real life. Unpretentious. Honest. Sincere. On a one-to-one basis.
This is the music I like to make and share with others. Personal, yet open ended. About people, places, politics, love, relationships, dejection, outrage, peace and hope. About life. In black and white.
This is not about charts, hit parades or the numbers game.
The sacred chemistry of this music is not dictated by sales figures or
directed at "target audiences".
At the very soul of his creative instincts, there lies love and also the
strange desire to make music guided by the mysterious urge from within.
Sound Syndicate proposes to share this with the rest of the world.
