SAPRA India Foundation INTERNSHIPS
"Security Research & Education" ...

Our Internship Programme is Closed

This programme has unfortunately been terminated due to a funds crunch. We hope to revive it in the future. Our idea was as follows: "As part of its efforts to promote the study of India's national security interests as well as evolve a body of scholarship that would provide for a healthy interaction of divergent views, the Foundation instituted its offered Foreign Visiting Scholars Programme in 2004. The aim is to educate foreign scholars to India's security concerns as well about India in general. In the first internship programme in 2004, a Doctoral student from the University of Virginia, USA, worked at the Foundation during February - April 2004. During this period of internship, the Visiting Fellow contributed articles to the Foundation's Monthly Bulletin as well. Ethan Beck from the University of Georgia at Athens participated in the second programme (Feb-Apr. 2005). The principal work of interns is to assist in global news monitoring, writing reports and helping with research. One aim of the programme is to introduce interns to India, its conditions and people. The programme is unformal and would suit those scholars who wish to get a feel of India rather than participate in a formal or structured programme."

Past & Present Scholars
Internship Specifics

The Foundation encourages scholars in the areas of political & security risk, terrorism, foreign affairs and military studies to apply for a 6-month stint as a visiting research fellow in Greater Noida, a suburb of New Delhi. Candidates from the United States are given special preference in view of our active programme called the "Washington Initiative". This Initiative has taken on increased significance following the resolve of the leadership of the United States and India to forge a strategic relationship. Prospective visiting fellows must send two letters of recommendations from their institutional mentors, a letter of interest and funding requirements. Generally, the Foundation only provides local expenses to cover accommodation, food and conveyance. Airfare and other expenses must be raised by the candidate on their own. Every intern must also agree to help the Foundation's research activities.

Prospective applicants should keep in mind the following:
All internships are for a 6-month period. Scholars seeking placement for shorter periods cannot be accommodated currently. During the period of placement with the SAPRA India Foundation, interns would be required to work as full time (45 hours per week) employees of the Foundation. The stipend offered by the Foundation is very basic and would generally be more appropriate for a student rather than for a more senior academic or researcher. Applicants must provide a statement regarding how they are going to source the remainder of the funds required to do an internship in New Delhi India. Applicants should be prepared to arrange for their own medical insurance as the Foundation cannot take the responsibility for reimbursing any medical expenses incurred by intern's during their stay in India.

All Applications must be mailed to:
